Week in Review
Monday, October 12th, 2009
Canadian stocks led the way the past week, rising 4.33%. All other stock benchmarks also rose: Europe by 0.68%, International by 0.57% and the US by 0.79%. Canadian bonds dropped on the week by 1.2%.
This week’s upcoming events include release of the updated Canadian Consumer Price Index giving a measure of current inflation/deflation trends. Canadian manufacturing shipments figures will also be announced this week. In the US, it is retail sales figures due for release. Given the ‘cash for clunkers’ subsidies have ended, economists expect vehicle sales to be sharply lower than they have been the last few months, and so will be watching other retail sales trends more closely for indications on the health of the economy.
