Week In Review
Monday, July 20th, 2009
The bears may have growled in the first week of July but the second week of July kicked off 2nd quarter corporate earnings reporting season with many companies beating expectations. With better-than-expected earnings being reported, the bulls were out in force. All major equity benchmarks posted solid gains for the week.
Earnings season is far from over. This week will see lots more reporting as well as interest rate guidance coming from the Bank of Canada on Tuesday, followed by the Bank 0f Canada’s Monetary Policy Report on Thursday. Expectations are that interest rates from the central bank will remain unchanged.
