Week and Month In Review

Canadian stocks had another strong week, growing 3.88% and a marvelous month. US stocks (denominated in $Cdn.) slipped 3.61% for the month along with domestic bond prices (-0.14%).
Canada’s GDP number for the first quarter of 2009 was released today at a much better-than-expected -5.4%. In addition, the US revised it’s initial GDP number last week from -6.1% down to -5.7%. The full report can be found here: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/090601/dq090601a-eng.htm .
Also in the news, GM has filed for bankruptcy and Chrysler may shortly emerge from bankruptcy. In GM’s case, the market has been expecting this for months, so no surprises here.
