Month In Review
Monday, May 4th, 2009
April closed up substantially for stocks around the world, adding to the impressive gains from March. In particular, Canadian stocks are now in positive territory year-to-date. First quarter earnings release season is coming to a close. Generally better than expected corporate earnings have been a significant driver of stock prices of the past few weeks. Bonds closed lower for the month but remain positive so far this year.
The US bank “stress test” reports will be released today. Sentiment seems to be positive. Other significant economic data to be released this week include US unemployment figures.
